I have a brief summery of what eloping is, and a small introduction to a few other topics that I cover. I hope that you enjoy reading and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to email me.
What is Eloping?
To elope suggests that you forgo a formal wedding and elope for just the ceremony instead. In modern times, eloping does not necessarily mean running away, and some couples who choose to elope do inform their families before their ceremony (although not always inviting them to attend). Sometimes, the couple invites just a handful of friends and/or family to attend the ceremony.
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, I was fortunate to be on of the two witnesses and sign the marriage documents because only 5 people could attend the ceremony (the Bride and Groom, the Officiant, and two witnesses). During the COVID-19 global pandemic, elopement style or micro weddings started to become even more popular for those still wanting to get married, while following the limitations put on gatherings by the authorities.
Why should you Elope?
This question is a popular one and it can be very confusing for some couples. There’s so many factors when it comes to planning a wedding & at some point most couples think about just running away, leaving the chaos and pressure of a big wedding behind to have a small, intimate wedding. Eloping isn’t for everyone, but it is a great option for a lot of couples planning to get married in a more low-key way. It doesn’t have to be some crazy travel adventure either, the best part of elopements is you can do it however you darn well please! Of course you can run off to the mountains for a really adventures wedding but you can also get married in your your own living room or backyard if that’s what your heart desires. Here’s a few reasons why a lot of couples choose to elope when they get married.
When are Where should I Elope?
This can be a very personal decision and there can be many reasons why you choose the location for your mini wedding. The location is not always chosen just because of the view or how remote the location is. Some things to think about include, 1) Choose a place that is meaningful to you, 2) Use a favourite season as a guide as to when to get married, 3) Research best times based on weather for your location, 4) Where is the exact location for the vow exchanges, 5) What are the local laws about getting married.
How much do Elopements Cost?
In 2017, according to statista.com a traditional wedding in Canada cost on average costs $42,400CAD. While elopement weddings cost between $3000 -$9000CAD. This price clearly depends on what you want included in your wedding. The more you want, or the hire quality, the hire the cost. The best thing about the elopement wedding, that you get to choose what is included and what isn't. You don't have to worry about what other think or have to worry about the cost of feeding everybody that goes to a traditional wedding of 100-250 guest list.
Some questions I am sure you are asking yourself, Are there specific people we need to hire if you’re eloping? Do we need different vendors for elopements compared to traditional, larger weddings? How can we find these elopement vendors? Do we need to book these vendors as far in advance as as vendors for traditional weddings?
It’s a lot, but not too much for you to handle.
If you two haven’t thought about these questions before now, your head is probably spinning right now. Take a few deep breaths, and do not worry! It’s actually probably not harder than you are thinking! Keep reading for some tips and tricks for finding and choosing elopement vendors.
