Once a client books a lifestyle newborn session with me, one of the first question I often get asked is “When is the best time or age for our session?”. The timeline can be a little bit flexible. Keep reading as I answer this question and explain a bit behind my thinking.
I approach my newborn session from a baby led posing perspective. This means the baby can be awake or asleep. I also don’t force them into positions or formal poses. I capture the connection between your new baby and you! This could be anywhere between 2 weeks old to 6 weeks old. For me, it is all the same.
So, “when do most of your families shoot their session?'“ I would say most of my in-home newborn sessions are shot when the baby is around 2 weeks to a month old. I have lots of mothers who want to wait a month to get adjusted themselves due to difficult deliveries or maybe they have delivered before and know it takes themselves a little bit to feel better. They all produce the same quality images! It is really up to you, my client, as to what works best for you. Once the baby is born, my families contact me to set up a session date. After that, I typically send dates with my availability within the first of month of life.
If you are someone who wants to remember those tiny, brand new details that you can only find those first few days of life, you should consider a Fresh 48 or hospital session after birth. I offer packages for maternity, fresh 48, and newborn sessions. I’d love to chat with you about the best option for your family.
